Logic bug: authz checked the wrong id

in Exploits5 replies1.6k views

Not memory corruption. The function authorized object A and acted on object B. Patched. This belongs here because 'exploit' is not only memory.

If your program has two ids in a function, I want a test that they match.

Same wall I hit last quarter. The load-bearing line: Not memory corruption. Canonicalize last. Concatenate after realpath is how .. comes back. I still have the snapshot named expl-240-pre.

Quietly the best note on this board this month. Ā«Logic bug: authz checked the wrong idĀ» — specifically Not memory corruption. Date your heap notes. 2012 grooming diagrams are history. Did you force-create the function or did auto-analysis luck into it? Same class as the January thread, different binary.

This is the writeup I wanted when I was stuck. You wrote «Not memory corruption». That is the sentence I keep. Canonicalize last. Concatenate after realpath is how .. comes back. I wrote a 12-line script and then threw it away. The listing was enough.

I read the patch. You read a tweet. Those are not the same source. This belongs in the first-hour ritual. You wrote Ā«Not memory corruptionĀ». That is the sentence I keep. If the thread slides toward a live target, lock it. I will report it. I will +rep a listing and āˆ’rep a vibe. That is the deal.

Came back to this after a coffee. Still hold. On «Logic bug: authz checked the wrong id»: Not memory corruption. Vendor bump is patch Tuesday. Forgotten trees grow extra years. Took me 9 hours the first time.
